Rainbow in my garden...............

Well it was really the sprinkler but it was pretty wasn't it.? So are the flowers.



Had a Robin visit us today.Not sure what she was up to but she was busy.


The Day Lily's are thriving and they are still really pretty.

I keep taking pictures of them because they is sooooooo pretty


The yellow ones are beautiful

The Black Eyed Susans are blooming


They look lovely with the blue ball

The Poodles were enjoying the sunshine and Tristen's absence haha


Meanwhile next door, Bud planted some pretty flowers, I think from seed. So next year I am going to scatter some seeds in my flower beds and see what happens.


This Day Lily is blooming and its in the back garden. I must get some more for next year. I think they do so well and are so showy that they really give the garden some colour

This is a poodle obviously up to no good. Look at that face........guilty....don't know what of but it's something

I can not believe this only has one flower on it. Must not be in a happy spot. I must see about moving it.

Well thats it for today.................wish there was something exciting going on but nothing............ah well. All for now.

On the deck.............

I rearranged the deck as the plants were rather blah...........


I tried to revive them by putting in some extras but they soon died off. That would be in the middle planter. So I moved in my Cyclamen to either side to give it colour again. The Hosta that were there are going to be planted in the shade gardens along with some ivy I have sitting around. Time to move things around. I have got loads of Spider plants now as I planted a bunch of babies. So they will all come in for winter so next year I will have even more. Has anyone tried them in the ground?



I am showing several views of the things on the deck. I have an old metal cooler and tool box under a glass table. All of those I got free. I use an old barrel as a side table to hold plants.

The potted plants are useful because they can be moved where needed

The stool is rather dilapidated now and I topped it with a slate so the top does not completely break apart


I moved the old ice box to the back and like it better back there. That gave me another planter to use somewhere else. I love moving things around.



Now I just need to dig the borders again and weed...............waiting for some cooler days.

Hosta.............

One of the workhorses of my garden is the Hosta. Well more than a workhorse really as the shade garden if full of them. I buy more every year.

What I like most is the variety. I mean they are green right, well they are so much more than green. They have lovely flowers. I know my friend Diane doesn't like the flowers and cuts them off but I don't know why. Still I think they are versatile. In this shot I have some tall ones in a corner with a tub in front with a different colour and some small ones in front.

This one (ignore the holes, slugs) is a pretty lime. I find that they grow really well in pots and last throught winters just fine.



This Hosta was repotted this Spring, I don't divide them just yet I want them to get really big first. The ones in the ground don't get so big.

This one is in a good size tub and is getting huge. I may well have to split it next year


you can use so many things as containers. A galvanized bucket makes a great planter

They fill in empty spots so well. They seem to flourish in sun and shade. In fact they seem to prefer sun.


The ones that grow tall really are great in background spots with small flowers in front. I use them to fill in spaces and with ivy for difficult spots.

The whole of my shade garden is Ivy, Vinca Vine and Hosta's. Well in Spring my forest flowers come through but at the moment its mainly Hostas. I have 3 new ones to put in. The reason I like pots is that they come up a lot quicker than those in the ground



This planter is an old chimney cap, concrete. Inside is a planter and this Hosta loves it.


I will continue to buy them. I use them in containers to place around in bare spots instead of annuals and then at the end of summer I can put them in the garden at back. I think this year I will also plant more ivy back there. It really needs to fill in better.



I put slug bait down a couple of times a year. That seems to be the only pest that damages them.

Pretty Bluebells..........

Pretty Bluebells light up the wood
In a place where I once stood.
Long forgotten shade of mine
Destroyed by the hands of time.
If I were to go back there now
stand in that same place somehow
Would I imprint it once again,
My shadow now as it was then?

August light.............

This picture is not sharp, I took it from a distance but I love the shadows and the front light with dark background.

Geraniums with the dark background again. I love that look.

These Day Lily are also lit from the front. I love how it makes them really stand out and become transparent almost


Some are not quite so dramatic but it still gives a beautiful light

The red never shows well for this flower but the dark background helps a bit

I hope you enjoy these flowers, much the same as others but with a different light. I went out today just to find these subjects when the sun was out.

Beginning of August.......

Here we are in August. The garden is still blooming but has a wilted look to it. We really do need more rain. I have not seen any Butterfly this year, one lonely white one awhile ago. What's wrong?. I have all the right kinds of flowers. Last year the garden was full of them. I think next year I will throw some packets of wild flower mixes into the front garden and the side. See then what comes up.
I was hoping to get out there today but need to wait for the lawn to get mowed. I don't do that. There are two men here who can do that but they procrastinate.
I don't like kneeling in wet grass so I wait. Maybe this evening it will be cool and maybe someone will cut the grass.

This chap really wanted to come to the feeder but I was in the window. It didn't stop the Blue Jay......the squirrel took his time and watched me.....watching him.


Its all turning to the yellows and orange tones of Autumn......the Mountain Ash berries are changing too


Well that,s it for today.............wont be long before we are back to bird watching instead of flowers.....not quite ready for that yet but I do miss my birds.
