This blog is about my garden and the outdoors. I am new to photography but I am trying to show some of the pretty things that grow here in Michigan. I love the wild things who visit me and I dont mind if they eat a bit here and there. I like it more if they let me take their picture. As time goes on I think I will try to show you around the beautiful area that I live in as well as my garden. I try to use my own pictures as much as possible but will also use pictures from the web. If I inadvertently use your photo or work without permission please email me and I will remove it or give credit if you prefer. I will give credit when I know who the owner is. I would ask that anyone using my pictures do the same.

Welcome to my Garden in May............

Its been a very long time coming but the garden is waking up at last. May, and nothing planted yet. We are not supposed to plant till the end of May but most years I have stuff in by mid April. This year I haven't even finished the clean up yet. I am working on it though a little at a time. This old body needs exercise after the long winter basically vegging. So nice to be out in the air.
Its a miracle what a few days can do. A little rain and then a lot of sun yesterday got things going really well.

Then there is the squirrels........Bud next door set his live traps and has captured and (he says) relocated two black ones. This guy pesters me every day, and sneaks up to see if I am looking before he gets into snacking

I sort of hope Bud does not capture him, he is a bit of a lad.

Well is it Spring or not?............

There was a few weeks of really hot weather, followed by a huge snow storm. Then it was cool for a time and now it's beginning to warm up again. So what are we to think? Should I or should I not start to get the garden sorted out? Thing have popped through and sort of just sat there wondering if they should come any further? We have had some good frosts so its still a bit iffy. Of course here in Michigan, and Northern Michigan at that, we can not really feel safe until after the end of May. So they say. I generally take a chance during April if the weather seems like it will stay reasonably warmish. So...........I did go and buy some pansies. They love the cooler weather so I am thinking I will make a start with those and put them in containers so they can be moved to a shady spot once it does get hot. They don't like the heat at all.
I found these primroses out in the front garden. Those in the back are not up yet.

Some of my little wildflowers are making a showing but not the Trillium just yet.

The Quince is blooming out front as well but nothing on the back one. That is further in the shade. One of my favourite shrubs because it makes me remember the Japanese Quince that would grow up my dad's garden shed.

Some other Spring flowers are making a show but they look weak, they lack strength. Not that I blame them they need some warm rain. It has been drizzling today but they need a down pour, a soaking rain. Then some sun and they will all liven up.

My regular Daffodils have not popped yet but maybe because they are closer to the ground these mini's are up and proud. So they should be, sweet little things.

Spring again...........

The end of March will soon be gone
April enters with birds song.
Flowers open to gentle rain
All the gardens bloom again.
Spring is here the Robin sings
Larks sweet call in meadow rings
Blossoms in the hedgerows bloom
where birds will be nesting soon
All is fresh and all is new
The sky a most heavenly blue.
Children in the parks now play
So it's Spring in every way.

Blue skys again....................

Well today did a reverse again and out came the sun. I went to the store yesterday and got a couple of plants for the house. I love the smell of Spring.
Photobucket
These go into the garden as soon as I am able to plant them so I can enjoy them again next year.

Photobucket
I have had quite a bit of luck with this over the years. Most everything that I have put in the garden in the Spring has come back up and spread.
Today I looked out to see who was at the feeder. There were two squirrels, a black and a grey. Seems they are now friends after a winter of eating together at the feeder because they were playing. They took off into a nearby tree when I opened the window but I was able to get a couple of cute pictures.

Photobucket
They may look like they are being naughty but they were just grooming and playing but I am sure its the beginning of a relationship. I will soon see baby squirrels maybe?

There were the usual visitors, the Chickadees and the finches. Today the male finch came and I did get a couple of pictures of him looking handsome.
